Just consider...we have many states of consciousness from conscious awareness to the unconscious. There are steps where we are aware, even unconsciously of our thoughts.

The higher self would have to be the highest spirituality we can be. What we have accumulated in our spiritual lessons and awareness are recorded on the higher self.

God as the central source of all energies - spirit - is the ultimate source. Then, on a filtering down basis, there are many levels of this spirituality energy, til it is the human being in material energies.

When we meditate it is possible to reach to God in prayer and then request our best good to be addressed through angels and guides. Hence we open to the many strata of spirit existence.
